Experience

Fourteen years of being the person responsible when it had to be right.

Not a résumé — a profile. What I was accountable for, what I built, and what it taught me. The through-line: operations and risk in places where errors carry a real cost, and where the quiet work of making things dependable is the whole job.

2026 — Present

Rios Applied AI

Founder & Principal

I design and ship production AI systems for regulated, document-heavy workflows — and, more to the point, the governance layer around them: the institutional-memory knowledge bases, risk registers, human-in-the-loop decision rights, and audit-ready logging that let an autonomous system operate where being wrong is expensive and defensibility isn't optional.

  • Build and run a portfolio of production agentic systems as a non-engineer, on one repeatable architecture: memory, decision rights, sync cadence.
  • Translate fourteen years of operating experience into deployment patterns for real financial-services work — KYC/AML alert handling, equity-compensation workflows, compliance operations.

2015 — 2026

Morgan Stanley

Financial Advisor · Portfolio Manager · Workplace Advisor, Equity Compensation

I built a client advisory practice from a standing start and grew it to $115M — advising high-net-worth households, corporate executives, and plan sponsors through the events where a wrong number is personal: RSU vesting, option exercises, concentrated-stock risk, equity-linked tax.

  • 88.9% five-year revenue growth and 4.5× total production — earned through relationships and referrals, not volume.
  • Served as Workplace Advisor to corporate plan sponsors, running equity-comp workflows across large executive participant populations.

2013 — 2015

Enterprise Recovery Systems

Loan Rehabilitation Supervisor

Deadline-bound work under Department of Education rules, where the compliance line and the human conversation had to hold at the same time. I negotiated repayment arrangements inside federal regulatory frameworks and supervised a team of counselors.

  • Generated $2.1M in first-year revenue; promoted twice in eighteen months.
  • Set firm records for monthly defaulted-loan rehabilitation volume ($2.8M, then $3.1M).

2011 — 2013

Bank of America Merrill Lynch

Global Risk & Control Officer · Collateral Projects Analyst

This is where the operating instincts were set. I coordinated monthly cross-asset operational-risk reporting — OTC derivatives, FX, commodities, futures, OTC clearing — and governed collateral initiatives under Dodd-Frank Title VII, ISDA/CSA documentation, and Basel III.

  • Led the rollout of a new collateral-management system — trained users and management, delivered $1M+ in annual operational savings and federally mandated audit trails.
  • Partnered across compliance, legal, technology, and business to build KPIs and document risk exposures across global capital-markets lines.

What it
taught me

Design for the bad day

Systems are judged on their worst case, not their average one. The failure mode is the design.

Ownership is the real control

A process without a clear owner is a gap with good documentation. Name the person, or the control isn't real.

Precision compounds

In regulated work the details aren't details. Small correctness, repeated, is what earns the right to move faster later.

Tools don't fix judgment

Better software raises the ceiling and the stakes at once. Judgment is still the scarce input — now applied faster.

Where the judgment shows

The clearest picture of how I think is in the writing.

A CV tells you where someone has been. The Field Notes tell you how they reason. If you're deciding whether to keep paying attention, start there — or just get in touch.
